What is communications planning?

Communications planning (commonly referred to as comms planning) is the process of working out how best to get your campaign in front of your target audience.

Think of it as the step which brings together creative and media, mapping out what needs to be said to who and how.

The comms plan is typically led by a comms planner, who will make recommendations across the audience, the message and the channel to ensure marketing objectives are met (whether that be awareness or sales etc.). A good comms plan will also ensure the campaign idea is being shared in a way which will strongly resonate with the intended audience.
